The Wildcats are the football team of the University of Arizona in Tucson. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the South Division of the Pac-12 Conference.
Arizona has won 6 conference championships, the most recent title coming in 1993 when the Wildcats triumphed in what was then the Pac-10 Conference. The program joined Pac-10 in 1978, and became a member of the Pac-12 South Division when the conference realigned in 2011.
Since 2021, the team has been led by Head Coach Jedd Fisch, a former Quarterback Coach for the New England Patriots NFL team who has also worked in college football with UCLA, Michigan, Minnesota, and Miami. In his first season, Fisch recorded a 1-11 record, with the Wildcats winning only against a Covid-depleted California team.
There is a longstanding rivalry between the Wildcats and the Sun Devils of Arizona State University. The annual game between the in-state rivals is known as "the Duel in the Desert."
