Angel City Football Club, often shortened to Angel City or ACFC, is a professional women’s football team based in Los Angeles, United States. The club competes in the National Women’s Soccer League, the top tier of women’s football in the country, and plays its home matches at BMO Stadium in central Los Angeles.
Announced in 2020, Angel City FC was founded by an ownership group led by actor Natalie Portman, venture capitalist Kara Nortman and club president Julie Uhrman, alongside a wide group of former United States women’s national team players and other high-profile investors. From the outset the club positioned itself as a purpose-driven organisation, tying sponsorship deals to community initiatives and equity-focused projects in the Los Angeles area. Angel City began NWSL play in 2022, quickly developing one of the league’s strongest fan bases and matchday atmospheres. On the pitch, the team progressed rapidly, reaching the NWSL play-offs in only its second season, while off the pitch it has been seen as a model for investment, visibility and community engagement in women’s sport.
