For those staying in Puerto Rico for the first time, the Old Town of San Juan will provide you with the dose of history and culture you need to get acquainted with the island. Some of Puerto Rico’s best beaches, landmarks, restaurants, and shops are all located here too.
If you want the proximity to the Old Town, but without the throngs of tourists, stay in the city’s hipster enclave, Santurce. Decorated head to toe with artsy street murals, it is even more colourful than San Juan’s Old Town. Plus, it’s home to some of the best bars and clubs around.
If you like the hipster vibe, but want something a little more chill, head to Rincon on Puerto Rico’s east coast for some surf and relaxation. Not only does it have cool bars and cafes and big waves, it has some of the island’s most beautiful sunsets.
The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico is, of course, rich in tropical nature, and there’s nowhere better to experience that than Cabo Rojo and Isabela. These two locales are packed with some of nature’s most unbelievable sights from pink saltwater flats and rocky cliff sides to mountains and mangroves.
Those who just want to live their best life on a tropical beach, should grab their towels and sunscreen and head to Culebra Island and Vieques, Puerto Rico’s dreamy white-sand-beach islands.
The resorts lining the beaches of Isla Verde are ideal for families or those who want a mix of relaxation and entertainment. With beaches, pools, restaurants, and spas right at your feet, and the Old Town’s entertainment just a few kilometres away, what more could you want?
San Juan itself is generally very walkable, but there are trolleys, buses, and taxis to help you get around. There are also buses available that will take you to other parts of Puerto Rico, but the best way to get around is by car.
