Dunedin Central is the city’s bustling commercial centre where most of the shopping malls, restaurants and bars, and cultural landmarks like the Railway Station and Dunedin Public Art Gallery are located.
North Dunedin is a popular residential inner-city suburb just a few minutes away from the centre itself. With plenty of parks and community cafes, it’s ideal for families. This is also where the Forsyth Barr Stadium is located, and sports fans can catch Highlanders games here often.
Head 3 km south of Dunedin Central towards St. Kilda and Tainui to experience a relaxed Kiwi beach vibe rather than the city sprawl. These neighbourhoods run along the sandy St. Clair Beach where surfers come to catch a wave before heading into the city.
While there is a reliable and frequent bus system available, Dunedin is quite compact and it’s easy to walk to many of the city’s attractions. Many of Dunedin’s draws are however in the nature surrounding the city, so a hire car is a great investment to make if you want to appreciate it in all its glory.
