There is very little on-site parking at the stadium, and nearby spaces along neighbouring roads and in small car parks are almost guaranteed to fill-up quickly on event days. It is therefore recommended that visitors to the stadium use city centre car parks, and travel the rest of the way by public transport. Car parks recommended by Olympique Marseille, the football club based at the stadium, include:
It takes 10-15 minutes to travel to the stadium from Marseille city centre, and 20-30 minutes to travel from Marseille Provence Airport, which is located just north of the city. Whilst there are no dedicated drop-off zones close to the stadium, taxi and rideshare users may be able to stop along Boulevard Gaston Ramon and Boulevard de la Pugette, both located on the south side of the stadium. Drop-offs may also be possible in the free car park located off Boulevard de Sainte-Marguerite.
Travellers using taxis or rideshares on event days should allow extra time for their journeys, due to the often busy nature of the roads around the stadium.
As a popular city along the Azure Coast, Marseille is understandably not an economical destination, although it’s considered one of the cheapest along the coast as it’s less exclusive and luxurious than neighbouring cities. So although you can’t expect to find super deals on accommodation, you certainly won’t be paying over the odds like you would in places like Nice or Montpellier.
The easiest way to get to the stadium from Aéroport de Marseille is to take the bus or train to Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles and then head to the stadium…
Stroll along the Corniche– enjoy the brisk breeze through your hair as you walk along the city’s popular waterfront where locals come to exercise and watch the world go by

The following public bus routes stop close to the Stade Vélodrome:
Train & metro
Marseille's main rail hub, Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles, is located in the city centre, approximately 4.5 km away from the stadium. For those wishing to travel to the Stade Vélodrome directly from the train station, take the M2 metro line southbound from Saint-Charles metro station to Rond Point du Prado or Sainte-Margeurite Dromel stations; Rond Point du Prado is located a 350 m (4 min) walk from the stadium, on the north-west side, whilst Sainte-Margeurite Dromel is located a 1.3 km (16 min) walk away on the east side. The metro journey takes less than 10 minutes.
Alternatively, Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles is a 20 minute taxi ride from the stadium.
Tram
The closest tram station to the Stade Vélodrome is Castellane, which is located a 2.2 km (26 min) walk from the stadium. Castellane tram stop is also located just yards from a metro stop of the same name, allowing travellers to take the tram part of the way, and then catch the M2 metro line the rest of the way.
Cycling to the Stade Vélodrome is a convenient way of attending an event. The venue is located close to many dedicated cycle paths, meaning your journey is likely to be a bit safer and more enjoyable than when travelling on ordinary roads. There are numerous cycle racks and hire stations around the stadium, including along Boulevard de la Pugette and Boulevard de Sainte-Marguerite, both located in close proximity to the stadium.
Due to Marseille's often warm weather, planning journeys in advance is recommended, and longer bike rides should not be undertaken without considering the climate.
Marseille is a beautiful city, and so if you are staying close enough it is often worth making at least some of the journey on foot. If you wish to walk from slightly further from the stadium, for example the old port area in the middle of the city, it is a 4.5 km (54 min) walk to the stadium: walking south on Rue de Rome and Avenue de Prado provides a direct route to the Stade Vélodrome.
