Downtown and the neighbouring Channel District are the city’s priciest, yet most tourist-centric locales. A number of the city’s biggest attractions are located here, including The Florida Aquarium and Amalie Arena, as well as its biggest shopping and dining scene.

Head northeast to the Ybor City Historic District, aka Cigar City, to immerse in Tampa’s culture during the day, and immerse in its nightlife after the spectacular southern sunset.

Although Ybor City is pretty cool, Seminole Heights is Tampa’s hippest hangout. The up-and-coming area is now populated by hipsters who have brought cool bars, cafes, and other eateries along with them, making it an ideal spot for foodies.

Alternatively, stay on Davis Island in Hillsborough Bay if you prefer a refined residential vibe. On the island, characterised by its candy-coloured Mediterranean terraces, you’ll find quiet parks and beaches, and plenty of upscale accommodation for the more discerning travellers.

Hyde Park is another upscale neighbourhood, but being located immediately west of Downtown, it is much more commercial than Davis Island. Its dining, drinking, and shopping scene competes with Downtown for the top spot.

Families may prefer to stay in north Tampa where the most action-packed attractions are located, including Adventure Island and Busch Gardens.

A historic trolley connects Downtown Tampa to Ybor City, but to reach other neighbourhoods, it’s best to get around by car or taxi.
