Those looking for a quieter and more relaxed beach setting may prefer Viserba, a smaller and more affordable beach community next to Marina Centro, or Riccione, which lies a few kilometres south. Both of them boast beautiful beaches, popular bars and restaurants, and plenty of hotel resorts.

Alternatively, swap Rimini for the neighbouring microstate and city of San Marino. This intriguing pocket of Italy is doused in history and drenched in charm. History buffs will be lulled by its ancient landmarks and nature-lovers will be mesmerised by its mountainous landscape.

While Rimini itself is a very walkable city, it’s worth hiring a car to explore the nearby San Marino, and other points of interest in the northeast of Italy.
