Those looking to find the best of Dortmund’s dining, shopping, and nightlife look no further than City-Ost and City-West. These neighbourhoods merge to form the city centre, or the commercial hub of the city. This is where keen tourists will also spot the city’s most prominent and historic landmarks.
Although the majority of the city’s accommodation is concentrated in those two neighbourhoods, there’s also a number spread across neighbourhoods surrounding the city centre.
The Ruhrallee area, located immediately south of City-Ost is ideal for families who want plenty of green space to play in without being too far from the city. Dortmund’s most favoured parks, Westfalenpark and Rombergpark, and attractions like Dortmund Zoo and Florian Tower are nearby.
Alternatively, head north of the city centre to Nordmarkt to immerse in Dortmund’s creative scene. Not only can the iconic DEPOT cultural centre be found here, but a number of indie shops, bars, and cafes can also be found here too.
Like everything in Germany, Dortmund’s public transport system is efficient and reliable. With trains, trams, and buses throughout, the city is easy to explore from wherever you decide to stay.
