The PPG Paints Arena is close to Pittsburgh Union Station which is the main train station in the city and provides connections to stations across the country. Pittsburgh Union Station is a 1.2 km (14 min) walk from the arena.

The arena can be reached via cable railway, on the funicular line:

• MI (Monongahela Incline) – Monongahela Incline at Lower Station · 2.1 km (25 min)
• DQI (Duquesne Incline) – Monongahela Incline at Lower Station · 2.1 km (25 min)

Port Authority's light rail service - commonly known as the "T" - connects three Downtown stations with Station Square and the South Hills. Downtown stations are located at Steel Plaza, Wood Street, and First Avenue, with Steel Plaza located closest to PPG Paints Arena, at Ross Street, and 6th Avenue. Service within the Golden Triangle is free at all times.

Pittsburgh's bike sharing system is POGOH and is perfect for quick trips around the city. You can pick up a bicycle at 50 stations throughout the city, return the bike at one of the other stations, and move about their day.

There is also a Healthy Ride Bike Sharing Station on Centre Avenue just a 200 m (2 min) walk from the arena.

As the PPG Paints Arena is located in downtown Pittsburgh, it is close to many sites, eateries, bars, and shops. Within walking distance, there's Duquesne University (600 m (7 min) walk from the arena), the Fort Pitt Museum and Fort Duquesne (1.6 km (19 min) walk), and the Fourth Avenue Historic District (1.0 km (12 min) walk).
