The Ryder Cup’s current match play format involves 2 teams of 12. The competition takes place from a Friday to a Sunday with a total of 28 matches, each played over 18 holes. The winner of each match scores 1 point for their team, with half a point awarded to each team for a tie.
On Friday and Saturday, there are 8 matches played each day; 4 four-balls matches and 4 foursomes matches, split into morning and afternoon sessions. There are 12 singles matches on Sunday with every team member in action.
Four-balls and foursomes matches are both contested by 2 teams of 2. In the former, each hole is won by the team whose member scored lowest, while in the latter, the teams use 1 ball each and take alternating shots. Singles matches adopt the match play format, in which 1 player from each team goes head-to-head and each hole is won by the player with the lowest score.
The team with the highest number of total points on Sunday claims the Ryder Cup trophy and bragging rights for the next 2 years. There are 28 points up for grabs, and in the event of a 14-14 tie the Ryder Cup is retained by the defending champions.
A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase at a range of concessions points located around the course. There will also be water refill stations throughout the course, so fans can bring their own bottle and keep hydrated throughout the day.
