Ice sleigh hockey - or sledge hockey and also known as Para ice hockey - is an adaptation of ice hockey designed for players who have a physical disability.
The game was created in Stockholm, Sweden, in the early 1960s at a rehabilitation centre. It is played with the same rules as regular ice hockey, but players sit on sleds and use special hockey sticks with metal "teeth" on the tips to move around the rink. Since 1994, ice sleigh hockey has been a part of the Winter Paralympics. The thrilling competition has made it one of the most popular events.
For the 2026 Winter Paralympics, the ice sleigh hockey events will be held at Allianz Cloud (PalaLido) in Milan.
