🏟️ Address: Sky Stadium, 105 Waterloo Quay, Pipitea, Wellington, 6140, New Zealand Directions in Google Maps
Wellington Stadium is located in the north of Wellington, not far from the city centre. Whilst there are a couple of convenient car parks both on and off-site, these are generally paid options. There are also abundant public transport links in the area, so it may be easier and more affordable to leave the car at home, if at all possible.
Below you can find general information on travel and parking for Sky Stadium. Individual events may have additional/restricted services available, and so we recommend clicking through to the event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab for event-specific information.
On-site
There is on-site parking at Wellington Stadium, including on match days. The stadium car park is located off Waterloo Quay, opposite CentrePort. All available parking spaces can be paid for on the day, but demand can be high on match days. For certain events, spaces can be pre-booked online, and visitors can also go to the Stadium Trust office to pre-book a space in-person.
Disabled spectators who are arriving by car should use the dedicated accessible spaces on the car park's ground floor. Golf carts are available to help visitors move between the car park and the venue entrances.
Off-site
Street parking is available in the vicinity of the stadium, but visitors are discouraged from using the residential roads in and around the Thorndon and Wadestown areas, as there are parking regulations in force which may result in vehicles being removed.
Nearby off-site car parks include the multi-storey facilities on Stout Street - located a 900 m (11 min) walk from the venue - and North Terrace - located a 1.2 km (14 min) walk away.
As Wellington Stadium is located so close to central Wellington, it is not difficult to hop on many of the city's buses. The closest stops to the stadium however are those on Thorndon Quay, which serves as a major terminal for many routes:
Wellington train station is located close to the stadium. It is a well-connected station with regular services across New Zealand. Visitors travelling between the station and the stadium can use an elevated walkway which runs directly between the two locations; it is just a 650 m (8 min) walk along this route.
Expect to pay premium prices for accommodation when visiting Wellington, as New Zealand is notoriously pricey, and its capital city is no exception. The good news is that the city is astonishingly small, and you can walk or cycle to almost anywhere in around 20 minutes. So whether you splash your cash to stay in its most coveted neighbourhoods, or save your funds for beer by compromising on location, you’ll never be too far away from the action.
Visitors to the stadium can bring in clear, plastic water bottles, measuring no more than 1 litre in volume. Small amounts of homemade food for personal consumption can also be brought into the stadium, provided the quantity does not exceed more than 1 small bag per person. Foods which are required or medical or dietary purposes are also permitted, as is food and drink for babies and young children.
Cool bags and similar large or hard storage bags or boxes are not permitted. Alcohol cannot be brought into the venue, regardless of the amount brought in or the container in which it is stored. Cans, flasks, and glass bottles are also prohibited.
Inside the stadium, there is a multitude of food and drink vendors, with offerings ranging from dumplings and sushi, to fish and chips and donuts.
There are toilets located throughout the venue. Baby change facilities can be found at Aisles 3, 12, 21, and 30.
There are multiple cycle racks within the stadium's car park, which can be found under the car park's pedestrian ramp, on the ground floor. The cycle racks are free to use.
Motorcycle parking is available free of charge on match days; parking spaces can be found alongside the cycle racks, within the car park.
It is just a 1.3 km (16 min) walk from Wellington Central, and just under a 4.2 km (50 min) walk if travelling from the south side of the city. For spectators who are travelling into Wellington from elsewhere, there is an elevated walkway which runs directly from Wellington train station to the stadium. It is just a 650 m (8 min) walk along the walkway.
Sky Stadium has a capacity of approximately 34,500. However, the capacity does differ between events depending on the seating configuration.
