The Basin Reserve is situated in Wellington’s Mount Cook district. The venue is easily reachable by public transport, taxi, or on foot. While the Basin Reserve is only a short drive away from Wellington’s city centre, we do not recommend driving, as parking close by may be difficult.

Although Wellington is a bicycle-friendly city, we do not recommend taking a bike to the Basin Reserve on match day, as the shared bicycle path to and from the ground is usually closed during events.
The Basin Reserve is among Wellington’s historical sites, and as such, it is one of the landmarks on Wellington’s Commonwealth Walkway. If you have time to spare, consider taking a 4 km (40 minutes) walk along the Commonwealth Walkway from downtown Wellington to the Basin Reserve. That way, you will get the chance to see some of Wellington’s most iconic sites, including the Beehive, the National Library, and the Government House.
Expect to pay premium prices for accommodation when visiting Wellington, as New Zealand is notoriously pricey, and its capital city is no exception. The good news is that the city is astonishingly small, and you can walk or cycle to almost anywhere in around 20 minutes. So whether you splash your cash to stay in its most coveted neighbourhoods, or save your funds for beer by compromising on location, you’ll never be too far away from the action.
Outside food and drink stands are available at the venue. The offerings are typical matchday foods, and healthy alternatives may be limited. Visitors of the Basin Reserve can bring small amounts of home-made food for personal consumption, water and soft drinks in plastic bottles, as well as thermos flasks of tea or coffee. Alcohol, glass bottles or cans, as well as commercially produced food, are not allowed at the venue.
Permanent toilet facilities are available at the Basin Reserve, however, there are some limitations, particularly with accessible and women’s toilets. The Wellington City Council is planning a redevelopment to address this issue.
The Longroom and Norwood Room offers disabled access.
Wellington City Council plan to redesign of the Museum Stand and ground, where the number of toilets will be increased to 57, with 33 accessible to women. The number of combined gender neutral and accessibility toilets will rise to 8.
Basin Reserve has a capacity of approximately 11,600. However, the capacity does differ between events depending on the seating configuration.
