Luge is a winter sport where the competitor rides a sled - known as a luge - down a track reaching speeds of 140 km/h (87 mph). The fastest recorded time on the track wins the competition.
Men's and women's singles and doubles competitions, as well as a team relay competition, are part of the Olympic programme. In one of the most precisely timed sports in the world, lugers race against a timer. Their times are measured to 1/1000 of a second, so you can imagine how fast the brave competitors can go as they hurtle down the track.
For the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the luge events will be held at Pista Eugenio Monti in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
