The World Championship is the biggest event in League of Legends (LoL) esports, and one of the most popular and oldest continuous events in professional esports.
First held in 2011, the "Worlds" was an instant success, attracting a prize pot of approximately USD $100,000, and over 1.5 million online viewers. Since then, the World Championship has been held annually, bestowing the best LoL teams in the world with the coveted world champions title, a huge pay day, and the Summoner's Cup, LoL esports' iconic trophy, which weighs over 40 pounds (18 kilograms).
The LoL World Championship is usually a LAN event, with a live crowd in attendance. The 2025 Grand Final will be held in Chengdu, China.
